Twists are cleansing. They wring out the internal organs like sponges. They improve mental activity, for an aligned and strong spinal column is better equipped to receive and transmit nerve signals to the brain. Twists help create a new sense of perspective: craning your gaze beyond the horizon of your normal view, you perceive new vistas. Twists are stimulating and cleansing. At the foundation, a twist must be rooted and stable in order to be a true twist. Let your eyes twist along with your spine—expanding your focus and stretching your eyes will clear them of toxins and help stretch the ring muscles around the eyes, toning and de-wrinkling them.
1. Seated Spinal Twist (Ardha Matsyendrasana)
This is a good neck, shoulder, and eye stretch, and very rejuvenating for the face. This pose will help build strength. It also invigorates your thinking power by aligning the spinal column, thereby assisting the nerve signals that conduct to and away from the brain.
2. Supine Twist
This pose relieves lower back pain, releases the shoulders, and opens the heart.
3. Cow Face Pose (Gomukhasana)
This upper ann and shoulder stretch frees up the heart chakra and detoxifies the lymph nodes. For this reason, it is recommended as a breast-cancer preventative. And when you flush your lymphatic system—a major drainage system of the body—toxins will exit rather than show up on your face as dark circles, spots, and bags.
4. Standing Side Stretch
5. Extended Side Angle Pose (Utthita Parsvakonasana)
6. Gate Pose (Parighasana)
